Grade 7 Social Studies
- GCO 1 – Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and the origins, functions, and sources of power, authority, and governance
- SCO8 – Evaluate issues, events, and developments in the shaping of Canadian Identity using the inquiry process and the Concepts of Historical Thinking.
- A. Use the inquiry process to evaluate information from a range of primary and secondary sources
- G. Analyse and evaluate arguments for bias, accuracy and validity
GRADE 8
Grade 8 Social Studies

Grade 9 Social Studies (9SOCA)
- SCO11 – Analyse current issues of geographical significance from a variety of sources and multiple perspectives.
- A. Gather data and perspectives on geographical issues from a variety of sources, including news media, academic articles, government reports, and non-governmental organizations;
- C. Compare multiple perspectives of different interest holders; and
- D. Assess the credibility, bias, and reliability of the information obtained from different sources
- SCO12 – Analyse various local and global contributions and ways people can affect societal change.

Canadian Law (LAW531A)
- 1.1.2 – Describe some of the factors that influence change in law including:
- Research lobby groups (e.g. Mothers Against Drunk Driving) or other bodies (e.g., Royal Commissions) to determine the level of influence these groups assert in the process of revising or bringing about new laws.
