Northwest Territories Social Studies
The CTRL-F: Verification Skills learning outcomes link explicitly to the Northwest Territories Social Studies program, which uses frameworks from the British Columbia curriculum up to grade 11 , and currently follows the Government of Alberta curriculum for grade 12. The relevant curricular outcomes are listed by grade level and subject below.

- Assess the accuracy of sources
- Identify biases that influence documents
- Locate and use relevant data
GRADE 9
Social Studies 9
- Assess the justification for competing historical accounts after investigating points of contention, reliability of sources, and adequacy of evidence (evidence)
- plan and conduct research using primary and secondary sources, including sources from a range of media types representing a range of perspectives
- Assess information sources for selected topics in terms of bias and point of view

- Content: current issues in local, regional, national, or global politics as represented in mass media, such as “fake news,” authenticity of websites and other sources, and diverse forms of media (adapted from Political Studies 12)
Francophone History and Culture 11

S.7 – apply the research process:
- perform searches using digital sources
- select relevant information when conducting research
S.9 – develop skills of media literacy:
- assess the authority, reliability and validity of electronically accessed information
- identify perspective and bias
- distinguish between sound generalizations and misleading oversimplification
- demonstrate discriminatory selection of electronically accessed information that is relevant to a particular topic
